Born in County Roscommon Ireland, Thomas was a Tammany Hall politician who served as 7th Ward. He sold liquor, wore diamonds and ran fast horses. He was widowed in 1881 and had no children, but was close with many of his nieces and nephews. He arrived in NYC at about age 12 and never left, though he had a horse farm in Ulster County (his brother John owned a large hotel nearby in Lackawack). It seems he bought a plot for 16, but only he, his wife and her uncle John Glennon are buried there.
