Police Officer Colvin Georges succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained four months earlier while making contact with a group of men who were loitering near a car wash in the Contant area of of St. Thomas.

Officer Georges and his partner were patrolling the area as the result of a shooting the previous night. As the officers approached one of the men in the group opened fire on them. Both officers were able to return fire, killing one subject and wounding another.

During the shootout Officer Georges suffered a serious gunshot wound which paralyzed him from the neck down. He was flown to a hospital in Miami, Florida, where he remained in critical condition until succumbing to his wounds.


Officer Georges had served with the United States Virgin Islands Police Department for two years.

Colvin Terrance Georges died on Sept. 29.
He is survived by his mother, Orelia Georges; father, Terril Georges; son, Colvin Georges Jr.; daughter, Keshana Georges; brothers: Iva Georges, Melvin Georges and Peter Georges; sisters: Lovin Gretta James, Marilyn St. Aubain, Allian Georges and Cleola Felix; aunts: Victoria Greenaway, Carolyn Casimir, Eurelia Christmas, Margaretrose Jervier and Rachel Greenaway; uncles Leo Greenaway, Francis Greenaway and Kennedy Greenaway; very special cousins: Vanessa Bellot and Patterson Ambo; and other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
There will be a first viewing held from 2-5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, at Government House. A second viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. the same day at Zone A. Command. There will be a third viewing held from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, at Ivanna Eudora Kean High School. Following that there will be a funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Eastern Cemetery, Smith Bay.
Funeral arrangements are by Turnbull's Funeral Home.
