Frank Rea, 72, was born in Blytheville Arkansas to Frances and Roy Rea in 1940. He passed away on Monday, September 17, following a 7 courageous years with lung cancer. He entered the Army in 1962 and retired in 1969. During his time in the Army he served in Germany, was involved in the Bay of Pigs, and served two tours of duty in Vietnam where he served as Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, and Heavy Weapons Infantry Advisor for the Delta Military Assistance Command. He received the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service in May 1969 for "obtaining outstanding results despite adverse conditions incident to a combat environment and his sense of urgency to complete his mission, he set an example that inspired his associates to strive for maximum performance." Survivors include his sister Carolyn Rea Atkins (husband, Dr. James Atkins), and his brother Dr. R. Lynn Rea (wife Cindy), two nephews Creighton Rea (wife Kristen), and Parker Rea, and 1 great nephew Owen Rea (the love of his life), 1 niece, Tangy and many other cousins and friends. The family is appreciative of the care provided by Dr. Mark Fleschler and Dr. James Strauss and the staff and residents of Assisted Living at The Legacy at Preston Hollow. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home. A graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2012 at DFW National Cemetery 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway Dallas, TX. 75211.
