Obit: Obit in Hazleton Standard Speaker reads: Michael Baran Sr., 88, who
resided with his son, Michael Jr., 608 Pardee St., died at 11am Sunday at St.
Luke Manor where he had been a patient since January. A former resident of
rear North Church Street, Baran was born in Yonkers, N.Y., a son of the late
Michael and Helen (Baran) Baran. Prior to his retirement he was employed by
the Lehigh Navigation Coal Co. Hazleton Shaft colliery for over 55 years. He
was a member of St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church, the United Mine Workers
of America and the McAdoo and Hazleton Senior Citizens. He was preceded in
death by his wife, the former Mary Barvilchock, in 1978; a son, Edward, in
1974; a grandson, Robert C. Baran, and two brothers, George and Steve.
Surviving are three children, Mrs. Donald (Margaret) Hines, Palmerton; Michael
Jr., Hazleton; Raymond, McAdoo; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grand-children;
three brothers, John, Joseph and Nicholas, all of Hazleton, and several nieces
and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10am Tuesday from the Frank J.
Bonin Funeral Home Inc., Second Street entrance, with a Divine Liturgy with
Office of Christian Burial in St. John's Church at 10:30am. Interment will be
in the Calvary Cemetery., Drums.
