Lugarda C. Gonzales, 97, of Fort Sumner, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at her home.
She was born on July 21, 1907, in Fort Sumner, to Juan B. and Antonia Sandoval Casaus.
She was raised in Fort Sumner where she graduated from high school. She married Pablo Gonzales on Nov. 19, 1928, in Fort Sumner. She was a homemaker and a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Family members said she enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking and visiting with family, friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Herman Gonzales; six sisters, Jenny Casaus, Delia Guerra, Mary Casaus, Celia Earley, Lala Mares and Excelsa Marquez; and a brother, John L. Casaus.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Agnes Garcia (and husband, John) of Roswell; a sister, Esther Crisp (Newell) of Temecula, Calif.; and a brother, Charles Casaus (Mary) of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, John M., Ernest, Chris and Theresa Garcia; six great-grandchildren, Mike, Paul and Serena Garcia, Cassandra Arenivas, and Carlos and Joseph Ledesma; a great-great-grandchild, Nathanial Arenivas; and many other relatives.
A rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner.
Visitation is scheduled from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. Friday at Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner.
Father Hoi Tran will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Fort Sumner Cemetery.
Pallbearers are John M., Ernest, Mike and Chris Garcia, Carlos and Joseph Ledesma, and Rumaldo Gonzales.
Honorary bearers are all her family and friends.
Arrangements are by Chavez Funeral Home of Fort Sumner.
