He married Charlotta Sophia Johansdotter in 1881 in Red Oak, Iowa. To this union was born six children, two dying in infancy, Alex on January 13, 1947. three are left to mourn the deceased, Victor Bengtson and Mrs. Edith Almquist, both of Essex, and Mrs. Luther Swanson of Shenandoah. He died December 4, 1946 in Page County, Iowa
