Alfred Curtiss was listed as age 7 with Nathan W. J. Curtiss, b. 1798 NY, and Malinda (nee Stone) Curtiss, b.1802 NY, on the 1850 Peoria, Peoria Illinois census. He was listed with three sisters, Lucy E., age 16, Rosina, age 12, & Sarah, age 3. The family was listed on the 1860 Vermilion, La Salle, Illinois census. There were also other sibling in this family.

Alfred enlisted in Co. B. of the 104th Illinois Infantry Regiment 7 August 1862. He was active in the Battle of Hartsville and the Tullahoma, Chickamauga, and Atlanta Campaigns. He was in the march to the sea and through the Carolinas. He mustered out 6 June 1865.

--------Alfred Curtiss married Diana J. Jennings 22 Dec 1869 in La Salle County. (IL Statewide Marriage Index.) They were listed together on the 1880 Groveland, La Salle, Illinois census with Minnie E., b. 1871, Eva M., b. 1874 & Charles Clinton Curtiss, b. 1876. The family moved to a farm near Spencer, Iowa, where Alfred was accidentally shot 3 December 1881. His body was returned home, where he was buried beside his parents in the Old Tonica Cemetery.
