Howard B. Bixby, 85, of Rt 219, Great Valley, formerly of Ellicottville, died Monday (Oct. 11, 2004) at the Olean General Hospital. He was the son of the late Floyd and Grace (Brewer) Bixby.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre. He was a self-employed bricklayer and mason most of his life.
He was a member of of the Great Valley Masonic Lodge 1178 and the American Legion Post 659. He attended the United Church in Ellicottville. He was an avid musician.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years whom he married Dec. 6, 1946, four daughters: Melissa Thornberg of Sacramento, California, Pamela Simsick of Hinsdale, Laurel Steffen of Eden and Joni Simcick of Little Valley, two sisters, Mavis Wiechman of Ellicottville and Myrna Hammond of Little Valley and three grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jarod Simcick, who died in 1999.
