His parents are Hoeke Lammerts de Haan and Baukje Wopkes de Vries.
He married 18 August 1838 in Bergum, province Friesland, Netherlands, to Jetske Ymes Hiemstra, 22 years aged and daughter of Yme Jelles Hiemstra and Dieuwke Pieters Kiestra. They had three children, Dieuwke, born 9 July 1839 in Deinum, mun. Menaldumadeel, Friesland, Baukjen or Boukje, born 3 October 1841 in Drogeham, mun. Achtkarspelen, in Friesland too, and Ymkje, born 16 November 1844 in Driezum, mun. Dantumadeel, in Friesland too.
Carpenter Wopke Hackes (!) DeHaan, 31 years aged, arrived 12 June 1847 with his wife JJ nee Heemstra DeHaan, and their children Diuwke (7 y), Boukje (5 y) and Jinkje (2 y; must be: Ymkje) with the ship Pieter Floris at New York. His wife Jetske Hiemstra died during the voyage at sea.
Wopke remarried on 3 July 1857 in the 1847 founded Dutch settlement Pella, Marion County, Iowa, to the 14 years younger Antje Vander Meer, who has Dutch parents too.
Census 1856, Lake Prairie Township, Marion County, Iowa: Wopke, 40 y, and his daughter Ymkje, 11, his father Hoeke, 77, his mother Baukje 79, and Brouer Fokkema, 38, who has lived one year. Wopke has lived here 9 and his parents 6 years.
By 1860 carpenter Wopke DeHaan owned $650 worth of real estate in or near Pella (Lake Prairie Township).
2 August 1866 Wobke, his father- and brother-in-law Isaac and Leendert Vander Meer, Dirk Vanden Bos, their wifes and others, totalling 42 persons, estabished in Pella the Ware Hollandsch Gereformeerde Kerk (True Dutch Reformed Church) and they elected Leendert Vander Meer as deacon for the new congregation.
In 1870 the family with six children left Pella in a wagon train for Orange City, Sioux County, in the northwest of Iowa. According to the Census 1870 they lived there in Township 95, Range 43, with six children: Adeline (18 y), Anna (16), Isaac (12), Mary (9), John (7) and Henry (3). Their post office was O'brien County. In 1871 was Wopke one of the 24 charter organizers of the Holland Christian Reformed Church and in 1873 with his farher-in-law Isaak Vander Meer and his wife Marie of the First Christian Reformed Church of Orange City, that was established in April/May 1870 by 77 persons from Pella. He died there in October 1885 at the age of 69 years, since October 1871 widower of Antje van der Meer.
