James Corbett Orgain


James Corbett Orgain was born December 20, 1918(sic) in Peach Springs, Arizona to Leona Leigh (Bloomer) and Roy D. Orgain. He passed away April 9, 2000 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma at the age of 80 years 3 months and 19 days.

He moved with his parents to Elk City, Oklahoma in 1920 and later to Moorewood where he attended Texmo School. He graduated from Hammon High School in 1937.

He was married to Veneta Mae (Bailey) Orgain at Cheyenne, Oklahoma on August 1, 1942 and they lived in Moorewood before moving to Strong City in 1946. James served on the Strong City School Board for a number of years.

He had been a member of the Strong City Baptist Church since 1946 and had served on the Church Board of Trustees.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

James is survived by his wife Veneta of the home; one daughter, Shirley Ann Johnston and husband Harold, Arapaho, Oklahoma; one son, Jim Orgain and wife, Sherri of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; two sisters, Dove Carlile, Arapaho, Oklahoma, Doloryce Williams, Elk City, Oklahoma; two brothers, Leroy Orgain of Redmond, Oregon and Carl Orgain of Hammon, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Cris, Sherry, Levi, Jayme, Jason, Harold, Jr., and Renee; 5 great grandchildren, Cara, Kadin, Krissie, Cami, and Brandi; special care giver and friend, Joyce Perry; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services were Wednesday, April 12, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at Strong City First Baptist Church, officiated by Milton Gage and assisted by Aubrey Cowan.

Interment was at Strong City Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
