There was a "lottery" in Iraq, and Lauro won! His prize? A surprise for his mother. He won time off for the 4th of July. He surprised his mother with a visit. This was the last time she saw her son. What a gift from God!

He is survived by his mother, Grace Lopez and husband Jimmy; father, Lauro S. De Leon, Jr. and wife Virginia; brother and sister, Ruben and Jo Ann Garcia; brothers and sisters, Jimmy Lopez, Jr., Nina Ruiz, Lillie Villanueva, Linda Lopez, Carrie De Leon and Christopher De Leon; maternal grandfather, Jose C. Garcia; paternal grandparents, Lauro and Aurora S. De Leon, Sr.; grandmother, Lillie B. Lopez; uncles, Joe R., Roger R., George R. and Joseph Garcia; aunts, Diane Santana, Alma Lenhart and Stephanie, Monica and Margie De Leon; numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Guadalupe R. Garcia, and grandfather, Benito X. Lopez. Specialist De Leon was a 2003 graduate of Floresville High School and worked as a truck driver. He was assigned to 217th Transportation Company, U.S. Army Reserves, in San Antonio, TX and was attached to 644th Transportation Company in Beaumont, TX, for Operation Iraqi Freedom"
