Marie Rumsey, 93, of Cortland, passed away July 20, 2012 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center Nursing Facility with family by her side. She was born January 15, 1919 in LaFayette NY, the daughter of the late Edward and Laura Winchell Williams.
Mrs. Rumsey came to the Cortland area in the late 1940's. She had worked with her late husband Dick Rumsey at the family business Rumsey Broom Co. She relocated to Florida in the late 1980's and provided homecare. After retiring from being a caregiver she returned to Cortland. In her spare time she enjoyed ballroom dancing, and was a lifetime member of the Blodgett Mills Grange.
She is survived by her son Richard Rumsey Sr. of Cortland, grandchildren Richard (Lonnie) Rumsey Jr. of Cortland, Robert (Annette) Rumsey of Homer, Jeffrey Rumsey of Cortland, Jaime Rumsey of McGraw, great grandson Noah, special niece "Punch" and half brother Ed Harrison.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday 12-1:45 pm with a funeral service to begin 2 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045. Burial will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery, Blodgett Mills.
