WESLACO -- Mrs. Gonzales, born Feb 10, 1911, in Falferrias, Texas, entered into external rest Jan 18, 2002.
Mrs. Gonzales was born in Falfurries and attended McAllen High School prior to the family moving to the Weslaco area in 1927. She was a member of the Arredondo family, a Weslaco pioneer family. In 1933, she began working for Weslaco's first doctor, Dr. Baldwin, as a receptionist, secretary and interreter. Sh was also instrumental in helping the Weslaco postmaster in numbering the houses on some of Weslaco's streets. She then moved to Los Angeles where she resided for 25 years. While there, she was a legal secretary to one of the largest record and jukebox companies in Los Angeles. After the dealth of her husband, Frank in 1972, she returned to Weslaco to be close to her daughter, sisters, and grandchildren. She was a longtime member of Amigos del Valle and St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
Mrs. Gonzales was preceded in death by her mother, Paula P. Arredondo; her father, Ramon S. Arrendondo; her sister, Francis A. Gonzalez; her daughter, Viola C Garza and her husband Frank B. Gonzales.
She is survived by her sisters, Juanita (janie) A. Thrane of Donna and Aurora (Mr. Lupe) Guerra of San Juan; her grandchildren Velina (Mr. Ralph) Beach of Cincinnati, Ohio, Valerie (Mr Lloyd) Collins of Dallas, Humberto R. Garza Jr. of San Diego, Calif. and Victor R. Garza of Sunnyvale, Calif.; her great-granchildren, Sean Bradish and Rebekah (Mr. A. J.) Bottinelli; and great-great-grandaughter, Hali R. Bradish. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
God saw you were getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you and whispered, "Come to me." With tearful eyes we watched you fade away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. Your golden heart stopped beating, hard-working hands ladid to rest. God Broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best.
Funerl services for Mrs. Gonzales will be held at 2p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Weslaco. Burial will be announced at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hawkins Funeral Home in Weslaco.
