When Dan first came to Birchdale, he stayed with the Peter & Gunilla Person family & logged south of their place. He married the Person's daughter, Nellie, & they homesteaded about a mile south & east of the Persons.
Dan & Nellie lived in a log house on the homestead for many years & had 2 children: LD & Gertrude. Then they bought 80 acres from Anna Staaf & moved to a new house 1 mile east of the Persons. Dan was known as a strong man as he continued to farm & log. In his later years, he had the help of his grandsons Curtis & Roger Danielson.
Nellie died in 1956. Dan was briefly married to a woman named Lilly & then, in 1965, married Myrtle Elizabeth Pugh Wheelock, the widow of Gerald Wheelock.
Dan & Myrtle continued to live on the farm until his sudden death at home in 1971. He was buried in the Birchdale Cemetery beside Nellie.
