Arthur Richard Bickel Jr., 69, of Radcliff, passed away peacefully Friday, June 29, 2012, at his residence with his family by his side after fighting a brave battle with esophageal cancer.
Mr. Bickel was retired from the U.S. Army. He was a recipient of a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts during his 21 years of service. He also was a member of V.F.W. Post 10281 in Vine Grove.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christina Avritt Allen; and a grandson, Ryan Allen
Survivors include his loving wife, Susie Bickel of Radcliff; four children, Arthur Bickel III of Texas, Candy Cook and her husband, Harry, of Radcliff, Richard Bickel of Radcliff, Sony Steier and her husband, Joe, of Louisville and Peter Avritt and his wife, Stephanie, of Louisville; nine grandchildren, Pierce Bickel, Joseph Steier, Phillip Roth, Jackie Steier, Kylie Roth, Luke Steier, Ava Steier, Christina Avritt and Bella Avritt.
Mr. Bickel's funeral service is at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2012, in the chapel of Coffey & Chism Funeral Home in Vine Grove. Burial with military honors follows in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at Coffey & Chism Funeral Home.
