Born March 24, 1927, in Washington County, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Gerald B. and Esther F. Moats Hemphill.
Her husband, Chester A. Boward died in 1992.
She was a graduate of Williamsport High School.
She was formerly employed as Fountain Manager at People's Drug Store; at J.J. Newberry's for twenty years, View Street Restaurant, and Old Orchard Supermarket for 7 years, retiring in 1992.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
She was a member of V.F.W. Post 1936, Cooties, a Red Feather of the Williamsport Red Men Tribe, Williamsport American Legion, Post 202 Auxiliary, Elks, Eagles, Amvets, and Moose of Hagerstown.
She also volunteered with the Veterans Administration in Hagerstown, and in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
She is survived by her son, Gerald E. Boward of Hagerstown; one brother, Frederick Hemphill of Fresno, California; many nieces and nephews; and cherished family and friends.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances E. Henry and Margaret E. Spessard; and four brothers, Donald Hemphill, Henry Hemphill, Paul Hemphill, and Blaine Hemphill.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Ann Boyd will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
