He was born Oct. 25, 1879, in Wirt County, the son of the late William A. and Alice Bartlett Copen. He was a member of the Bethel Chapel.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Laura Copen; four daughters, Mrs. Elsie Flinn, Elizabeth, Rt. 3, Mrs. Madge Bird, Pearl Copen and Mrs. Helen Pifer, all of Parkesburg; three sons, John Copen, Marietta, Harold Copen, Akron, O., and Vernon Copen, Parkersburg, and several grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at the Nazarene Church in Elizabeth, with the Rev. G.B. Vanhorn officiating, assisted by the Rev. Ed Hutchinson. Burial was in Bethel Chapel Cemetery. McCray Funeral Home, Elizabeth, was in charge of arrangements.
