Daughter of William Emmett and Edna Edith (Schwope) French. Born on the Schwope family farm northeast of Follett, Texas and one mile south of the Oklahoma border.
Janice was the great granddaughter of German immigrants, who came from Prussia to the U.S. in the 1860s, settling in Wathena, Kansas. In 1916, her parents and maternal grandparents settled in Lipscomb, Co, Texas.
She was named after her mother's childhood friend. Her name was pronounced: Ja-niece Loraine. She was known as "Johnnie" to many of her friends and family.
She lived most of her life in the Follett community with the exception of her first and last years. She and her parents moved to Kansas City, Wyandotte Co, Kansas, when she was only a few months old. Her father felt there were more employment opportunities there. It was here that her brother, "Wayne Edwin (Bud) French" was born in November 1918. However, her mother got homesick and the Frenchs moved back to Lipscomb Co. shortly after Bud's birth.
She was promoted from 1st grade to third grade after spending the summer learning and mastering the second grade material. She graduated from Follett High School in 1934. In school she played basketball and volleyball. She also enjoyed playing sports later in life.
Janice was united in marriage to Champ Clark Frazier on December 6, 1936, in Shattuck, Ellis Co, Oklahoma, in a double ceremony with Champ's brother, Albert (Buck) and Miss Cleo Faye Walker.
Their first child, Garland Ray was born in 1940. Champ was then called to serve his country during World War II. After his return, their second child, Reta Janet was born in 1947.
She was employed for a time at Crump's Best Way grocery store in the butcher shop and also at her parents' business, French's Laundry. Her most important and rewarding job though was caring for her parents, husband, children and grandchildren.
Janice was raised in the Methodist Church, but in 1954 began attending the Follett Apostolic Faith Chapel built by the Reverend Marcus Adair and family.
She loved working crossword puzzles, especially with her son, watching basketball, football, game shows and The Lawrence Welk Show, and visiting with family and friends.
She went to live at Twin Oaks Manor in May 2007, in Booker, Texas. She enjoyed playing (and winning) at BINGO and listening and dancing to the live band that came once a month.
