Aviation Pioneer. He is credited with flying the first air-mail delivery from between New York City and Chicago on September 7, 1918. The full round trip flight took 9 hours and 18 minutes. He died from injuries sustained in a plane crash during an aviation tournament in Holdredge, Nebraska. His feat was commemorated for many years on a wall mural at the Plainfield Post Office in Plainfield, Illinois.
