Death Comes to Edward B. Alsop in
Capital City at Age of Eighty-Six Years
--------------------------------------
Edward B. Alsop, wealthy retired Pittsburgh
Pa., steel magnate, who has made his home
in Washington for the last 20 years, died at
11:30 o'clock last night in his residence,
1502 20th street [sic], aged eighty-six years.
Infirmities of old age are said to have caused
his death. The body will be interred in
Pittsburgh where he maintained his legal
residence.
Retiring from active business in Pittsburgh,
where he had accumulated a large fortune,
and where he was widely known as a steel
magnate and authority in the manufacture
of steel and its products, he came to the
National Capital, and made this city his home.
He was an active member in the Metropolitan
Club and spent much of his time there. Mr.
Alsop's first wife died a number of years ago
and he was divorced from his second wife.
When he married his second wife, a girl many
years his junior, he came into a nation-wide
publicity. The second marriage was not a
happy one and Mr. Alsop lived with his wife
only a short time. Recently the second Mrs.
Alsop was discovered in New York City in
destitute circumstances. She makes that city
her home.
