Elias Buchanan Jr., 80, of Union Otto Day Care Road, Franklin, passed away Wednesday, Dec.12, 2007, at a local hospital. Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Elias Buchanan Sr. and Albie Cabe Buchanan. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, where he served in Japan and was a lifetime member of the Franklin VFW Post 7339. He worked as a machine operator for Rabun Carpet Manufacturing and retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation where he worked in the maintenance department.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Velma Stiles Buchanan; his son, Calvin Michael Buchanan and wife Janice of Hickory; one sister, Kate Holland of Asheville; one brother, Harold Buchanan of Franklin; two grandchildren, Michael and Mitch Queen, and two greatgrandchildren,
Preston and Amelia Queen. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Ann Stiles Queen; and two brothers, Hayes
and Herman Buchanan.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, at 1:30 p.m., at Longview Baptist Church, with Revs. Nick Smith and Wiley Gibson officiating. Burial will be in the Ebenezer Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gay Williams, Drew Weeks, Dean
Thompson, David Lee Stiles, Keith Curtis, and Wayne Lynch. The Franklin VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108 will conduct complete military graveside rites.

The family will receive friends Friday, Dec. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Bryant Funeral Home, where the body will remain until placed in the Church 30 minutes prior to service.
