Mary Alice Morgan was born on 19 Feb 1927 in Rayville, Richland Parish, Louisiana, USA. In 1967, Mary Alice Morgan legally changed her name to Teeta Morgan Smith.

Teeta's father's mother was named Alice Mary Spencer Morgan and was from Arkansas.
Teeta studied at Denton College and earned a degree in teaching and French. While attending school there she met her first husband, James N. McNeese.
Mary Alice Morgan , or Teeta, (her nickname), married her first husband, James Norman McNeese. Their marriage was held in Denton, Texas, USA. Dr. James Norman McNeese became a psychiatrist. They had two children, Amanda and Marcus McNeese.
Teeta once told me, when I asked her if she had wished she that she had never had the children that passed away, she said: "Absolutely not! I would never had seen their personalities develop!" She taught all of her children to read. She taught me a lot of Latin and Spanish. She was a fluent speaker of French, Spanish and Latin. She taught at Texas Tech university.
Teeta's second husband, was Mark Spencer Smith. He was a trial attorney. My mother, Teeta, told me that she wanted to have many pretty children with Mark who was a handsome man. She got her wish. They had eight children.

Teeta went to college at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas while keeping her family from imploding.

Mark Spencer Smith, her second husband, was a trial attorney and was also an alcoholic and was unbearable as the disease of alcoholism began to control Mark Spencer Smith's brain.. Teeta went through 2 divorces with Mark Spencer Smith.

After her 2nd, (3 divorces total), divorce from Mark Spence Smith, she accepted a position teaching at a private high school in Houston, Texas. That position lasted a year and then she moved for a year to Nassau, Bahamas to work on her dissertation.

She then moved to Guyman, Oklahoma to teach at Panhandle State University. During that time her daughter , Deirdre, died and she then moved to Austin, Texas where she taught Spanish at Austin Community College.

While in Austin she found a position in Georgetown, Texas at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. After several years at Southwestern University she moved back to Austin, Texas.

Teeta then found and purchased a house in Austin, Texas and began teaching at Austin Community College.
After a year at Austin Community College she spent a year at Winona State University, in Winona, Minnesota.

After a year there, she returned to Austin, Texas and continued teaching part-time at ACC & traveled across Austin with her close friend Marge Beasley, a census worker, to translate for Spanish speakers. Marge told us that the Spanish speakers were delighted with Teeta's Spanish and were delighted to answer those pesky census questions for this lovely, caucasian woman that spoke flawless Spanish!

I inherited Teeta's gift for languages and can only feel a sense of gratitude for all of her other traits that have made my life better.

Mary Alice Smith changed her name legally in 1967 to Teeta Morgan Smith. Teeta passed away April 8, 1996 in Austin, Texas surrounded by her remaining family. Teeta was 69 yrs old. Sadly, she had outlived many of her children. Teeta had 10 children.
Teeta's children are named in order of their birth. Amanda McNeese, Marcus McNeese, Mark Lee Smith, Claire-Teeta Smith, Regan Reynolds Smith, John Barron Smith, Angélique Caro Smith, Charlotte Morgan Smith, Deirdre Colleen Noëllie Smith and Rex Christian Smith.
