James A "Jim" Davis, Lt. Col. (Ret), age 72, of Dahlonega, died May 26, 2012.
Jim has been a resident of Dahlonega since 1989. He was born and raised in Atlanta and graduated from Sylvan Hills High School in 1957. Jim graduated from North Georgia College in 1961 and received a commission as a 2nd Lt. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1985.
Jim was an Eagle Scout, maintaining registration with the BSA for 59 years. In 1976 he was presented the Silver Beaver Award by the Transatlantic Council. He was a Rotarian and served as President of the Dahlonega Rotary Club in 1996.
Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Barber, of Atlanta and their infant son; his parents, Loy W. and Madge M. Davis.
Funeral services are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at the Dahlonega United Methodist Church. Rev. Jeff Ross will officiate. Interment will be in Westview Cemetery in Atlanta.
The family received friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Boy Scouts of America or the American Cancer Society.
