Toronto Star 27 Nov 1916:

Pte. G.A. Copeland Killed

Word has been received by his brother in Toronto that Pte. George A. Copeland, No. 442190, has been officially reported as killed. His mother at Cookstown received a telegram on Thanksgiving Day advising her that he had been wounded on September 17. From that time until yesterday the repeated efforts of his family have been unsuccessful in getting any information about him whatever. Yesterday they got a wire from Ottawa advising them that he was reported killed instead of wounded. Pte. Copeland enlisted a year ago last Septemeber with the 76th Battalion at Barrie, Ont. He went overseas last spring, and almost immediately on his arrival was drafted into another battalion, when he was sent to France, and had been fighting in the trenches up till the time of his death.
