Ruth Christine Bowser, 94, a resident of the Forest Grove community died Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at The Gardens Care Home in Forest Grove, OR.
Ruth was born on September 25, 1917 on the family farm near Claire City, SD. She was the second of three daughters born to Louis and Annetta (Olson) Comstock. At on early age, Ruth's family moved to North Hollywood, CA where she received her early education. When she started high school, Ruth's family had moved to Sweet Home, OR but they soon moved back to North Hollywood where she finished high school at North Hollywood High School in 1934.
Ruth met her future husband, Cleo Bowser, while attending high school in Sweet Home and they were married in North Hollywood on December 14, 1935. Following their marriage, they made their home in between Sweet Home and North Hollywood during his years of service in WWII until they purchased his family farm in Sweet Home in 1949. They lived in Forest Grove from 1968 until 1973 when they returned to Sweet Home to be near Cleo's mother. Cleo died on October 18, 1990 and Ruth continued to live in Sweet Home until 1993 when she came to live with her daughter in Forest Grove.
Ruth was a farm wife and homemaker at heart. She loved her family and made their home a welcome place for friends, especially teenagers. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing most of her children's clothes and special items for the grandchildren.
She created hundreds of stuffed animals for the children in the family and gave many away to friends and children.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Cleo, her parents, and her sister Mary Flinn.
She is survived by her two children and a son-in-law; Carol and Herb Drew of Forest Grove, Robert Bowser of Portland, her sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Neil Parker of Redmond, OR, four nieces and three nephews, eight grandchildren: Jollene, Irene, Bill, Bethany, Jerry, Jeff, Janelle and Jack, 17 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
A private internment will take place at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR.
