Forrest was the second of four children of James and B. E. Anderson. He attended college in Texas, and according to his daughter, Mary, studied law at Columbia University in New York City and graduated third in his class. He served two years in the Army at a lieutenant at Fort Worth. He had hazel eyes and black hair.

In 1915 he and Grace married in NYC, and they lived for a few years in Dallas, where he practiced law. By 1920 they moved to NYC and lived with his wife's grandmother in her large apartment in Manhattan. By 1928 they had moved to Pelham in Westchester County NY, 28 minutes from Manhattan by subway. They had three daughters. Forrest worked as a justice of the peace and a lawyer, specializing in trusts and estates.

When Forrest retired, he and Grace moved to Santa Barbara and then to Walnut Creek, California. When Grace needed more help, they moved into the home of one of their daughters in Walla Walla, Washington, where Forrest died at age 97.
