Melvin Lee "Andy" Anderson, 85, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Monday, May 21, 2012, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Melvin was born September 18, 1926, in El Dorado, Kansas, the son of Elmer and Saloma (Ehrlich) Anderson. He grew up in El Dorado and attended Jefferson Elementary School, Junior High School and was a senior at El Dorado High School when he was drafted in the U.S. Army before he could graduate. He was stationed in Japan and also served in the Philippines and Luzon during his 2 years in the service. He and a friend migrated to Russell, Kansas, where he made his home. He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Marguerite St. Aubyn on June 13, 1962 in Newkirk, Oklahoma and was together for 27 years. She passed away in 1990. He was employed by City Service for 40 years as a truck driver and pumper and retired in 1989. He was a lifetime member of the Russell V.F.W. Post 6240, O.C.A.W. Union and he loved hunting and fishing in his spare time.

Surviving family include his brother William Anderson of El Dorado, Kansas and many nieces and nephews.

Those preceding him in death are his Parents, wife Marguerite on January 31, 1990, 2 older brothers Earl R. Anderson and Harold J. Anderson, 2 nieces and a sister-in-law.

A celebration of Melvin's life will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday, May 24, 2012, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at the mortuary. Memorials can be given to the Russell V.F.W. Post 6240 and can be sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
