DIED. MEEKIN – On Sunday night, about 12 o'clock, June 1871, at the residence of his brother, Mr. James H. Meekin, corner of Market and Upper Fourth streets, Mr. Martin H. Meekin, after an illness of three years, in the 34th year of his age. Martin H. Meekin was a native of this city, was born on the 8th day of January, 1838, and the youngest son of Capt. Charles H. and Mrs. Rebecca G. Meekin. Mr. Meekin was for many years an Ohio and Mississippi river pilot, and at the commencement of the war accepted a position as pilot in the fleet of Western United States steamers, and served in that capacity until the close of active operations in the Mississippi Valley. - New Albany Ledger 19 Jun 1871
