Nellie (Ives) Benjamin, 91, of Newington, widow of Gabriel "Gibbo" Benjamin, passed away on Sunday (May 13, 2012) at Bel Air Manor in Newington.

Born in Iran, Nellie has been a Newington resident since 1951. She was a charter member of St. Thomas Assyrian Church of the East in New Britain; and was a former member of the Ladies Guild at the church.

Surviving is a son, Michael Benjamin and his wife Leah of Mary Esther, Florida; three daughters and their spouses, Elaine and Robert Boland of Newington, Nancy and Claude Lussier of Farmington, and Judith and Gene Stumpo of Middletown; a sister, Julia Varanelli of Woodbury; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Sharon and Patrick Hurley, Susan and Mark Lance, Karen Harz and her fiancé Paul Hebert, Christine Lussier and her husband Robert Hamill, Michelle and Dan Goldfarb, Paul and Telina Benjamin, Pamela Stumpo and her husband Neil Parekh, and Katy and Dean Crabtree; and ten great-grandchildren, Matthew and Daniel Hurley, Sarah and Benjamin Paventi, Maxwell and Adam Harz, Evan and Bryce Goldfarb, and Noelle and Reese Crabtree; as well as many several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Gabriel, she was predeceased by a sister, Jennie Tremblay. During her lifetime, Nellie invested all her love, attention, and faith in her extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday in St. Thomas Assyrian Church of the East, 120 Cabot Street, New Britain.
Burial will follow in the St. Thomas Assyrian Cemetery, New Britain.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain.
