Emma G. Burkle was born February 29, 1912 in Logan County near Fredonia, ND the daughter of Johannes and Wilhelmina (Schimke) Burkle. She was raised on the family farm near Fredonia and attended school at the rural Nathan School District. After her schooling, she helped on the farm and with the care of her brothers and sisters. On November 8, 1931, she married Fred Buckey at Napoleon, ND. The farmed near Fredonia, ND for 5 years and then moved to Missoula, MT for 1 year. They returned to North Dakota and farmed near Adrian, ND from 1938 to 1940; near Montpelier, ND from 1941 to 1951 and then near Nortonville, ND from 1952 to 1973. They retired in 1974 and moved to Jamestown, ND where they were members of St. John's Lutheran Church.

Visitation – 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 1, 2009 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND. The family will be present.
