Laura's husband, Andrew James Pruitt, was known to be in Gettysburg, South Dakota, and Lebanon, South Dakota, from their very beginnings. Gettysburg's 75th Anniversary Book quotes Andrew Pruitt as saying that he came to the area in 1883 and "cast my lot with the young hustlers of the town - Frank Byrne, the Todd boys, J.R. In the mid 1880s Andrew was a postmaster in Lebanon and then in Gettysburg. In 1887 he was a member of the Dakota Territorial Legislature for Gettysburg.
