This is my precious Grandmother.
Betty is the daughter of James Elliot Acree and Nancy Maria Coomer Acree.
She is the wife of Lewis Romines.

Betty is the Mother of:
twins which died at birth, Phillip who also died at birth, Sybil Kathleen, and my Mother Audrey Elna.

Betty had 6 brothers and 3 sisters in order of Birth: Herschel, Ethel, Bruce, Sherman, Betty, Loren, Jasper, Mary "Helen", Fannie Jo, and William "Paul". Grandma loved music and could play the guitar and banjo well. She loved to square dance too, and along with my grandfather they played and called many square dances throughout the years. My Grandma died of pneumonia from complications due to congestive heart failure at Methodist Hospital here in Indianapolis. She was taken back to her home in Kentucky for furneral services and burial. Grandma died when I was only 4 years old, so I don't have many things I can remember about her, but the things I can remember I sure do cherish.
The biggest thing that comes to mind when I think of her is that she always wore an apron.
I read a story recently that talked about "Grandmother's Apron" and it was just as if they wrote this story about my Grandma! I remember she gathered eggs from the hen house in it, she carried veggies from the garden in it, used it as a pot holder for taking hot pans off the stove, wiped water off her hands and sweat from her brow with it. She shewed the dogs and flies away with it. That apron was so handy I don't know why we all don't continually wear one today! I love you so much Grandma and I look forward to seeing you again someday. Kiss the family for me and send them my love too. Until that day may you rest in heavenly peace.

You can read a little more about my family in a story that I have added to the archives on my Mother's memorial (Audrey Worthington) on 10/05/2005 here at FAG. It is titled; "The True Road Home."

This true story was inspired by an oil painting that was done by my Mother, depicting the farm house where she was born and raised. This painting now hangs on the wall in front of my computer.
