Robert Lee Yoder, 70, of LaGrange, IN died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, February 11, 2012.
Mr. Yoder was born in Sturgis, MI on May 9, 1941 to Howard W. and Mary F. (Kline) Yoder.
Mr. Yoder lived the majority of his life in LaGrange County except for a short time when he lived in New Haven, IN and the time he spent at his summer home in Columbus, Mont. He was an industrial electrician having worked for Uniroyal Goodrich in Woodburn, IN, Electri-Tec in Angola, IN, and Magnavox of Fort Wayne, IN.
A 1959 graduate of LaGrange High School, he continued his education by graduating from DeVry Technical College. In 1976 he obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Geology from Indiana University in Fort Wayne, IN.
Mr. Yoder was a former Eagle Scout and enjoyed scouting activities and camping. He enjoyed stamp collecting, Civil War re-enacting, had authored two volumes about the soldiers of LaGrange County from the Civil War, and at one time he raced stock cars. Mr. Yoder attended the First United Methodist Church of LaGrange, IN.
On June 24, 1962 in LaGrange, IN he married Sandra K. Connelly; she survives in LaGrange, IN.
Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Lola Yoder of LaGrange, IN; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jesse and Heidi Yoder, Amber Belcher, Dustin and Misty Yoder, and Matthew and Sadie Yoder; twelve great-grandchildren, Hannah, Emily, and Ivee Belcher, Hunter, Tyler, Isabella, Kaylee, Bree, Haylee, Landon, Braedon, and Brock Yoder; a sister, Carolyn Huser of Austin, TX; four sisters-in-law and their husbands, Diane and Fritz Schlemmer of LaGrange, IN, Susan and Mark Dempsey of LaGrange, IN, Ann and Tom Pomeroy of Columbus, Mont., and Sherry and Bob Ballard of Howe, IN; a brother-in-law and his wife, Roger and Sherry Connelly of Three Rivers, MI; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Mary Yoder, and a brother-in-law, Sam Huser.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 10:30 am at Frurip-May Funeral Home, 309 W. Michigan St., LaGrange, IN with Rev. Carldean Merrifield officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in LaGrange, IN.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
