Zephaniah Stout Bryant was born in April 1813 in Lyons, New York to James Bryant and Cathrine Simson Stout.
He was married first to Hannah Walker in Indiana and they had one daughter, Mary Catherine Bryant. After Hannah died, Zephaniah (Z.S.) then married Sarah Ann Brown 1845 in Indiana. The family moved west about 1851, settling in Columbia County, Oregon, where he was the postmaster. About 1885 he, Sarah and their youngest son, Zephaniah Albert, moved with their church group to Minnesota where Zephaniah and Sarah died.

The body of Mr. Z. S. Bryant was brought to the city Saturday evening and taken directly from the train to Forest Hill cemetery where it was interred.
Mr. Bryant, who recently lived in Ellington township, Dodge county, died in St. Paul on the boat "Megiddo." He was born in New York state ninety years ago. From there he moved to the state of Oregon where he managed a farm until he came to Ellington in 1885 where he lived until a year ago. At that time, He joined the band of evangelists who have built the Megiddo and he remained with them until he died of old age.
Mr. Bryant had always been a well and hearty man up to the time of his death. Two sons survive him, Milton O. Bryant and Z. A. Bryant. His wife died about eight years ago. Owatonna Evening Journal, Monday, July 7, 1902
