Norman T. Cox celebrated his homecoming and went to be with the Lord on June 10, 1995. Mr. Cox was a member of the London Bridge Baptist Church and had lived in the Virginia Beach area for 79 years.
He worked with his father at A.C. Cox and Son for 19 years before retiring in 1953. He also worked with the City of Norfolk and the State of Virginia with the Commissioner of Revenue.
In 1965 he co-founded the Empress Motel located at 2707 Atlantic Avenue in Virginia Beach. He remained in that business until that business was sold in 1983.
The son of A.C. Cox and Bessie Cartwright Cox, he was a member of the Owens Masonic Lodge (NU)164, Norfolk United Royal Arch Chapter 1, Grace Commandry Knights Templar, Khedive Shrine Temple and Khedive Drum and Bugle Corps.
He is survived by his wife, Nonie Godfrey Cox of Virginia Beach, and his two sons, Norman A. Cox of Norfolk and Donald T. Cox of San Diego, Calif., and a sister, Madeline Watkins of Culpepper, Va. He also had six grandchildren and one-great-grandchild.
A praise and memorial service will be conducted at the London Bridge Baptist Church, 2460 Potters Road, Virginia Beach, Va., at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 1995. He may be viewed at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park, where Masonic rights will be accorded. Friends may join the family at the residence following the service.
The family has suggested memorial donations may be made to the London Bridge Baptist Church Building Fund or the Shriners Hospital for Crippled and Burned Children in care of 645 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake, Va. 23320. Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, is handling the arrangements.
