GREGG LeMASTER, 61, b. Fayetteville, Arkansas, Sept. 26, 1924, d. San Francisco, Jan. 19, 1986.
A graduate of the University of Arkansas in 1949, he was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard and served aboard the USS Kirkpatrick and the USS Leopold. He was a World War veteran serving in the U.S. Navy.
He came to Arbuckle and Pierce High School as assistant coach in 1954 and the following year he became head coach, coaching football. He was Athletic Director from 1955 until his retirement in 1981.
He became Vice-Principal of Pierce High School in 1975 and Commissioner of the Northern State California Interscholastic Federation in 1980. He also taught history, government and business math. He was voted "Coach of the Year" numerous times.
He was a member of the Arbuckle Golf Club, the Masonic Lodge, NEA California Coaching Assn. and the Arbuckle Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia of Arbuckle; and two sisters, Josephine L. Brooks of Fayette, AK. [sic] and Martha Jean Olive of Dunedin, Florida. He was preceded in death by his mother, Clara Bell Carter and his father, Walter Cleveland LeMaster, both born in Arkansas.
Graveside rites were held in the Arbuckle Cemetery. – Transcribed by M.
