Mittie died in childbirth the infant was buried beside her.

Mittie Whatley, third child of Ben and Beatrice Coleman Whatley was born in what is now Whatley, Alabama on Jan 25 1888. She is shown on an early Whatley school picture. On Dec 14, 1912, Mittie was married to Howard David Cooper, the son of Robert James Cooper, also of Whatley. Mittie and Howard had four children, the last of which was stillborn on June 19 1928. Mittie died nine days later on June 28, 1928. Mother and baby are buried in the family section of the Whatley cemetery. Howard was born Sept 15, 1892 and died on November 5, 1971. He was buried elsewhere. In 1929 Howard Married Wilda Miles and they had a stillborn baby. They had a second child, Alice who married Zoradi and now (2007) lives in Whatley. Within a couple of years after Howard and Wilda were married, their house was destroyed by fire. Howard with his father Bob Cooper had bought the land from John W. Rodgers in 1918.
