Alice (Whorton) Lane is the daughter of Isaac M. Whorton, Jr. and Helen C. (Arnold) Whorton.

She was the wife of Robert Payne Lane. They were married on January 23, 1901, in Blount County, Alabama, and they had five children together by their marriage:

(1) Robert Whorton Lane (4 May 1903 AL - 2 March 1947 AL), he is buried in Forrest Cemetery, Gadsden, Etowah Co., AL.

(2) John Lane (Born 6 Feb 1905 Guntersville, AL)

(3) Gilbert Augustus Lane (25 June 1907 AL - 30 Aug 1994), he is buried in Forrest Cemetery, Gadsden, Etowah Co., AL.

(4) William Isaac Lane (29 March 1917 AL - 11 Feb 1999 FL), he is buried at Arlington Park Cemetery Jacksonville, Duval Co., FL.

(5) Helen (Lane) Dortch (9 Sep 1909 AL - 09 March 1998), she married William B. Dortch. She is buried in Forrest Cemetery, Gadsden, Etowah Co., AL.

Mrs. Robert Payne Lane died today at 11 a.m., at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. William B. Dortch, 631 Reynolds St., following a brief illness.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Collier-Butler.

MRS. LANE RITES SLATED TOMORROW

Mrs. Robert Payne Lane, 631 Reynolds Street, died at 11 a.m. yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. B. Dortch.

A native of Summit, and a resident of Gadsden since 1947. Mrs. Lane was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and of the W. B. Dortch Sunday School Class of North Gadsden Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. W. B. Dortch; three sons, John Lane, Wilmington, Del.; Gilbert A. Lane, Oxford, and Capt. William T. Lane, Elpaso, Tex.; two sisters, Mrs. H.L. Grasty and Mrs. Sarah Whorton, Both of Birmingham; four brothers, C.R. and W. W. Whorton, both of Birmingham, and T.M. and A.R. Whorton, of Washington, D. C.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., tomorrow at the Collier-Butler Chapel, with the Revs. Ivan H. Trusler and Donald Fortson officiating.

Burial will be in Forrest Cemetery, with Collier-Butler Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The body is to remain at Collier-Butler Chapel through the hour of service.

Active pallbearers will be W.C. Cranford, Carl Hofferbert, Colquett Majure, Nall Leach, Frank Bevis, Hudon Shropshire, James Allen, Herbert Meighan, Jr., Robert Whittle, Ray Ellis, R.D. Stevens, and George Oliver.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. J.O. Finney, Dr. William Tally, Dr. William Simpson, all personal friends, members of the Etowah County Bar Association, officers of the First Presbyterian Church and all members of the North Gadsden Presbyterian Church.
