Singer, Songwriter. She was a singer-pianist most noted for her many innovative pop music compositions. From 1966 to the 1990s, she wrote hit songs for artists such as The 5th Dimension, Peter, Paul and Mary, Three Dog Night, Bette Midler, Barbra Streisand, Jackson Browne, Blood, Sweat & Tears, and many others. Her countless compositions included "And When I Die," "Stoned Soul Picnic," "Stoney End," "Sweet Blindness," "Wedding Bell Blues" and "Eli's Comin." She died from ovarian cancer at her home in Danbury, Connecticut. She was 49. In 2001, Laura Nyro was posthumously inducted into the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame. In 2010 and 2012, Nyro was inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, respectively.
