Victor Fred Bartels was born April 30, 1916 in Tobias, Nebraska the son of Herman W. and Marie (Schweer) Bartels. On May 21, 1916, Vic was baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church in Tobias where he was later confirmed on April 13, 1930. Growing up, he attended school at Zion Lutheran in Tobias.
On February 20, 1944, Vic was united in marriage to Mathilda "Tillie" Lullmann at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake.
Vic loved farming. In December of 1969, he retired from farming and moved to Storm Lake. After they moved to Storm Lake, he became a jack of all trades working at Wunder Tire, Bomgaars Supply, John Deere, Storm Lake Tank and Silo, Klein Electric, Torch Chemical and also Norm's Livestock and Supply. Vic enjoyed traveling with his wife, Tillie, especially to Arizona in the winter. He was an avid Minnesota Twins Baseball fan. Vic loved his family and treasured spending time with them.
Three men that influenced Vic the most throughout his life were his father-in-law, John Lullmann, who impressed the importance of religion and O.J. Grau and Louis Madision, who taught him the basics of economics; however, Vic often mentioned that without God nothing would have worked.
Those left to cherish his memory include sisters-in-law: Anna Hogrefe of Storm Lake, Iowa; Norma (Arnold) Otto of Albert City, Iowa; Edna Rebhuhn of Albert City, Iowa; and Neoma Bartels of Storm Lake, Iowa; 19 nieces and nephews; extended family and many friends.
