He was born in Seville and had lived most of his life in Putnam County. He was a Baptist. He was a member and past master of Pineland Lodge No. 86, F&AM. He began his career in 1957 as a block and brick mason for Hudson Pulp and Paper Company, and later became a millwright before retiring in 1983 from Georgia-Pacific.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Buckles of Palatka; two daughters, Frances Darcey of Chipley, Janet Andreu of St. Augustine; son, Rocky Buckles of Palatka; four half-sisters, Pauline Gaston and Gladys Clifton, both of Barberville, Lucille Byrd of Warner Robbins, Ga., Nancy Roya of Northfield, Vt.; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Masters Funeral Home in Palatka with the Rev. Ted A. Rodda Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Palatka Memorial Gardens. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dtd 21 Jun 1994.)
