Wildly As Smithy
Succumbs At 76
A native of Waldoboro and all his active life engaged in the blacksmithing business there, succeeding his father, who established the business more than 100 years ago. Lendon C. Waltz died Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Thomas Kingsbury, 21 William Street, Portland at the age of 76 years. He went there two weeks ago to spend the winter with his daughter. His wife died last spring. Mr. Waltz was the son of William G. Waltz, one of the most wifely known smithies in Lincoln County at one time. The son learned the trade of his father and worked with him for many years, taking over the business upon the elder Waltz's retirement. Mr. Waltz leaves six daughters, Mrs. Kingsbury of Portland, Miss. Emma Waltz of Gardiner, Mrs. Ira Achorne, Miss. Laila Waltz, Mrs. Charles Rowe and Mrs. Millard Hoak, all of Waldoboro. A son Chester Waltz, was drowned a year ago last May when a boat in which he was rowing was swamped.
