Dorothy P. Atkinson, 81, of Batesville, Ohio passed away Thursday, March 1, 2012, at her son's home in Barnesville, Ohio.

She was born June 18, 1930 in Batesville, Ohio, daughter of the late Leslie Long and Kathryn Heddleson Long Jackson.

Dorothy retired from Noble Local Schools, where she worked as a cook for over 27 years. She was a member of Batesville United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She attended Caldwell and Barnesville Senior Citizens Centers and enjoyed playing cards with friends. Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to many. Dorothy will be sadly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Atkinson and brother, William "Billy" Long.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Joyce Clouse (Bob Powell) of Bethesda, Ohio; son, Gary (Lynn) Atkinson of Barnesville; grandchildren, Shawn (Nichole) Clouse of Barnesville and Louise Clouse (Dustin Dyer) of Beallsville, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Avery, Macguire and Ansley Clouse; sister, Mona Sue (Ed) Block of Zanesville, Ohio; and brother, Darrell (Karen) Long of Batesville.

Family and friends were received Monday, March 5, 2012 at Kelly Kemp Braido & Patron Funeral Home, 702 E. Main St., Barnesville, Ohio and Tuesday, March 6, 2012 until time of services at Batesville United Methodist Church, 115 Main Pike St., Quaker City, Ohio. Reverend Carol Touvell officiated the service. Interment followed at Batesville Cemetery, Batesville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Batesville United Methodist Church, 115 Main Pike Street, Quaker City, Ohio 43773.
