==========================================
Had a hunting accident when he was in his teens. Charles was passing a loaded rifle under a farm fence and the gun discharged unexpectedly. Charles was shot in his right arm. The doctors advised his father, Jan Napolski, that Charles' injured arm should be amputated to save Charles' life. Jan said that he would not consent to their amputating Charles' arm, and that he'd rather Charles' die than have him live without an arm. Charles survived the injury but the injury caused him to lose most of the use of his right hand and arm.
