Paul R. Boughter, Jr., age 58, a retired Shoemakersville Borough Police Officer, passed away February 29, 2012 in Hershey Medical Center. Boughter was the son of the late Paul "Red", Sr. and Betty (Eveland) Boughter. He served various Berks County Police departments, retiring from Shoemakersville Borough in 1994.
Boughter resided with his wife in Lebanon. In addition to his wife, Boughter is survived by a son, daughter, stepson
stepdaughter, five grandchildren and a sister.
Boughter was active in Lions Club International, serving with the Quentin-Roosevelt Lions Club. He served as Vice President and President of the Quentin Lions Club and past Vice President, President and Secretary of the Lebanon County Sight Committee. He had received a commendation from the President of the Lions Club International and recently received the Melvin Jones Award, the highest award in Lionism.
Though retired, Boughter served as the Trustee Chairman and Delegate to the State and National Conferences of the Fraternal Order of Police. He also served as guard and chaired on various committees of the organization. He was the recipient of the President's Award of the F.O.P. in 2007. In 2010 the membership unanimously renamed the President's Award as the Paul R. Boughter, Jr. Service Award to be given yearly to a worthy officer or citizen.
Boughter recently was elected to serve as the Vice President of the PA Retired Police Officer's Organization and was a member of the Shoemakersville and Temple Fire Companies, F.O.P. Social Club, Victor Emmanuel II Beneficial Society and organized the "Glenside Area Reunion", an affair for all who lived in Glenside/Greenfields Area of Reading in the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Township.
