second husband of Sarah Jameson Badley m. 7 January 1886 at Brooklyn, Kings County, New York and the son of John Cawley and Charlotte Eliza Ayrd (Barry) McArthur. They had wanted to marry in their youth, but had been forbidden because they were first cousins. When left a single mother with two daughters, not intending any more children, her parents now both dead, they married and he raised her children as his own in the next six years of his life. They were able to travel, made several trips to the continent, and he did what he could to put the farms in Illinois in order, before his health failed and his untimely death.
