Duane John Arp, 81, of Grand Island, died Sunday, February 19, 2012 in Lincoln. Duane was born on March 4, 1930 in Grand Island, NE to John H. and Martha E. (Schwieger) Arp.

Duane grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1948. He entered the US Air Force on February 1, 1949, serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on October 23, 1952.

Duane worked at and co-owned Motor Engineering Works in Grand Island from 1952 to 2003 when he retired. He was a charter member of the Grand Island Rural Volunteer Fire Department and served for over 20 years. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the American Legion, the Platt- Duetsche in Grand Island and the NRA.

Duane is survived by: sons and daughter-in-law, John Arp of Lincoln, Bruce and Gail Arp of Weston; grandchildren Kyle and Katie Arp of Weston; sisters and brother-in-laws, Joan and Chet Felske of Cairo, Karen and Larry Miller of Grand Island; and a host of relatives and friends.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents.

Burial was in the Westlawn Memorial Park, Grand Island, NE.
