As an infant his family migrated to America, going first to Galesburg, IL. At the age of nine years he with his family moved to Geneva, NE., locating on a farm in Chelsea township.
After his marriage he remained on the farm until 1905, when he moved to Geneva following his election to the office of Fillmore county clerk. Following his tenure in office he entered business in Geneva, which was continuous for 40 years. He operated a Ford garage, implement store and service station. He was always active in church, civic and educational affairs, serving at times on the city council and the board of education.
He was member of the Congregational Church of Geneva, being a member of the board of trustees. He was a member of the Geneva Masonic lodge, holding the Jordan medal as having the longest membership. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite.
