Alice Ellis was born October 23, 1851 in Townsend, Schayler county, NY. She came with her parents to Wisconsin when about 2 years of age. She was married October 23, 1876 to David Davis of Bristol. They soon began housekeeping on his farm in Windsor township, where she resided until her death, which was caused by consumption and occurred May 15, 1889 after an illness of 3 months. The funeral was held at the Congregational Church in Windsor on Friday at 10 o'clock, Rev. Mr. Butler officiating. A large concourse of mourning friends were in attendance and the remains consigned to earth in Windsor Cemetery. She was the mother of two interesting children, a son and daughter, who are bereft of a mother's love and care at the tender ages of 10 and 8 years. My earliest recollection of Mrs. Davis is as a shy but precocious and beautiful little girl and an only daughter, the pride and pet of a doting father and mother and 2 older brothers; afterward as a loved pupil I found her to be bright, studious and always obedient. She acquired a good education in the common schools and state university, after which for several years she was a very successful teacher in the district schools of Dane county, where she was much beloved by her pupils and highly esteemed by their parents. Ever ambitious and industrious, her life on the farm gave her little time to indulge in social pleasures. To the domestics employed in her household she was uniformly kind and generous. The friendless and less fortunate in worldly goods than herself could not appeal to her in vain. The bereaved husband and little children and aged parents have the abiding sympathy of the whole community in their deep sorrow.
