Mrs. Velma McElroy Adkins, age 75, of Danville, AR died Wednesday, April 5, 2000 at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville, AR. She was born October 28, 1924 in Carden Bottoms, Yell County, Arkansas to the late Rostus and Iva Mae Hutchins McElroy. She was retired director for the Senior Companion Program, a homemaker and mother and a member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Adkins; two sisters, Marie and Thelma McElroy and five brothers, Ed, Loyd, Clarence, Delbert and Bee McElroy.

She is survived by, two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Ray Adair of Havana, AR and Diana and John Hickman of Tampa, FL; three grandsons, Brent Rhoades of Ft. Riley, KS, Jeremy Adair of Havana, AR and Paul Vess of Tampa, FL; one granddaughter, Shannon Vess of the Florida Keys; one great-grandson, Tyler Vess of Tampa, FL; four great-granddaughters, Journey and Mikela Vess of Tampa, FL, Whitney and Dakota Rhoades of Ft. Smith, AR; one brother, Bud McElroy of Dardanelle, AR; a very special niece, Mary Sue Martin of Dardanelle, AR and three very special sisters-in-law, Dot McElroy of Conway, AR, Johnny McElroy and Rena Foster both of Dardanelle and a host of good friends.

Services were April 8, 2000 at the Cornwell Chapel in Danville with John McCourt officiating. Interment was in Brearley Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville, AR. Pallbearers were, David Catlett, Johnny Barnett, Raymond Barnett, James Adair, Charles Carpenter and Brent Rhoades.
